Get to Know Me and My Philosophy
Hello and welcome!
My name is Juliane, and I am passionate about helping children and their family members connect with themselves and each other because I know that healthy individuals and families are made up of strong, deep, authentic relationships. However, healthy relationships are not always easy to create - and can be especially difficult for children and their parents/carers, because we all have behavioural and emotional characteristics and/or traumatic life circumstances that make connecting with ourselves and each other challenging. When this is the case, children and families deserve support from experienced and skilled psychology services.
Thus, I have written a little bit about myself below to show you why I think I can help children, adolescents and families thrive!
I am a psychologist with over 13 years of experience working with children, adolescents and families on psychological assessments, forensic reports, child and adolescent psychotherapy, family therapy and parenting interventions. I am proud to have a culturally, clinically, and scientifically diverse background. For example, my clinical training includes traditional approaches such as CBT and child and adolescent Schema Therapy as well as attachment-based, trauma-informed, and family-systems interventions. I am also a certified Parent-Child Interaction Therapist (PCIT - https://www.pcit.org/) and have experience and training in culturally appropriate Psychology interventions for children and families of vulnerable and indigenous backgrounds across Brazil and Australia.
In addition, my qualifications include a bachelor's in Psychology with honours from Pontific Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul/Brazil (2004-2009), both a specialisation in clinical psychology (2012-2014) and a Master's in Psychology (2014/2016) from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul/Brazil, and a PhD in Psychology from Griffith University (2016/2020). Through the years, my academic career grew alongside my clinical career because I am also passionate about psychology research and helping Psychology students and colleagues in their learning journey. Thus, I am currently also an academic at the University of Queensland, where I supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students. I also possess a research manager appointment at UQ working with clinical trials for evidence-based parenting interventions within addiction treatment services. My research work and interests are child development and psychopathology, parenting interventions, child and adolescent behavioural disorders and externalising behaviour such as ADHD, Conduct Problems, Oppositional Defiant Disorders, and Antisocial behaviour.
My purpose is to use my knowledge and skills to help children, adolescents, and families develop strong, deep and authentic relationships with themselves and each other. As a differential of my practice, my diverse background allows me to see, hear, respect, and help my clients and their families from a place of true connection and understanding, always harvesting their uniqueness and strengths so they can develop and thrive. I am proud of and ready to share my knowledge and passion for healing and growth with you, your children and your family. Let’s build a community to support children’s and families’ physical and mental health!

MY MISSION
To reconnect children and their parents/carers through supporting the development of healthy home environments where everyone feels seen, heard,
and valued by who they are!
I believe that behaviour is how people communicate their needs and my mission is to help families hear, see, understand and manage their child’s needs, emotions, and behaviours successfully. Doing so, I expect to restore connection, communication, peace, compassion, growth, and enjoyment within the families, so that parents/carers feel empowered and confident to be the safety and the support that their children and adolescents need.
My mission of supporting children and families to develop healthy home environments where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued by who they are is rooted in my personal experience growing up. I was raised by a single mother of two girls and have many fond memories of my childhood. However, as in most families, there were also challenges and traumatic experiences. For example, DV and relatives' mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Also, like many people, I too experienced spanking as the go-to parenting strategy for child behaviour management of my and my parent's generation. Years later, as an adult, I did not want to perpetuate these patterns, so I went on a personal healing journey to understand the role that those traumatic childhood experiences played in the choices and type of relationships I created with myself, my family members, and my friends. I also pursued technical knowledge and made it a mission to become an expert in child and adolescent development. Now, I want to share the lessons and knowledge I acquired in my journey and build a community to help as many children, adolescents and families as I can to be the best version of themselves!
